About Peter McQueeney

Biography

Peter McQueeney was born in Hobart Tasmania in 1941.
From 1986 he has lived in Sydney and is a fulltime professional artist.

Peter commenced training in 1956 at G.P. Fitzgerald's Hobart Display studio.
Appointed Visual Merchandising Manager Myer Launceston Tasmania 1966
Appointed Visual Merchandising Manager Myer Hobart Tasmania 1971
During this period designed and painted sets for the Tasmanian Ballet and Repertory companies.
Worked as a Visual Merchandising Consultant in South East Asia 1982
Moved and worked in Adelaide, South Australia for two years, 1984
Lived in Kathmandu Nepal, travelled in India, started full time painting during this time, 1986
Returned to Australia in 1986 and now lives in Sydney working as a full time artist.
Provides artwork for Galleries, Art Consultants and Designers for major projects in Australia and South East Asia. Continued to travel and study in Europe, USA and Asia.

Manifesto

His aim with his work is to capture the mood of the Australian landscape its coastlines, interiors and the vastness of the island continent. He is particularly drawn to the light and colours of this timeless land.

Changes of light and weather conditions offer challenging exploration in atmosphere,colour and textual interpretation. Variations in terrain and vegetation can be expressed with paint through abstraction and designed to bring up the diverse and unique characteristics of this country which he hopes will inspire observation and introspection in the viewer and evoke pleasurable memories of the spirit of the land and the moment in time.
